What is a Doula?

I am a trained non-medical professional support for you and your family. I will provide continuous emotional and physical support. In addition I will provide information to support your pregnancy, labour, and postpartum decisions. We will work together on advocacy and guidance to encourage your desired experience during this memorable time. When you hire a Doula your family as a whole benefits from the support.

I have a Midwife/Obstetrician do I need a Doula as well?

That is up to you and your family, however having a doula is in additional support to your healthcare provider.

When is the best time in my pregnancy to hire a Doula?

Anytime, however 12–20 weeks will provide you the best chance to secure your spot, as well as give you and your partner the most amount of time to build a strong connection with your Doula.

What is the difference between a Doula and a Midwife?

A Doula is a non-medical professional who provides emotional, physical, informational support as well as advocacy and guidance.

 

A Midwife is a medical professional who can provide exams, delivery and medical tests.

How will having a Doula help my experience?

Having a doula results in fewer c-sections, reduces labor lengths, reduces the need of medication. It will also give you a higher satisfaction with your birth and postpartum experience, and provides you with the confidence to advocate for yourself, your partner and your wishes.

Do Doulas offer medical advice?

No. As your doula I will provide you evidence-based information, for you and your partner to make the best choices for your family.
