Meet Kaitlyn

Certified Doula

Hello, I'm Kaitlyn. I am a 30 year old mom of three kids, living in Kamloops, BC and starting a new chapter in my life. Motherhood, childbirth, and babies have always been

my passion. I babysat nearly every weekend starting at 13 years old and knew my calling in life was to be a mom. In the meantime I got my certification to become a Health Care Assistant at our local hospital. I felt passionately about helping people and wanted to dip my toes into the medical field to see if nursing was for me, six years later I left to become a stay at home mom. At 22 I experienced a pregnancy loss, it took me a long time to mentally and physically recover from. In 2019 I got a positive pregnancy test and with that experienced severe hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness). My daughter was born in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, hello overwhelming feelings. When she was 10 months old I unexpectedly got another positive pregnancy test, ready or not baby brother was on his way, along with round two of hyperemesis gravidarum. Growing through these experiences opened my heart to knowing that my

purpose was to help other mothers and families with my doula services. Thanks for stopping by my page, I'm excited to embark on this next chapter!

What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained, non-medical professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to expectant mothers and families before, during, and shortly after childbirth to ensure a safe and empowering experience. Derived from ancient Greek for "a woman who serves," they offer comfort measures, advocacy, and guidance, complementing the clinical care provided by midwives or obstetricians.

Core Responsibilities of a Doula:

  • Advocacy: Ensures the parent’s voice is heard by medical staff and that they feel informed about decisions.

  • Prenatal Support: Helps create a birth plan, explains options, and prepares the family for labour.

  • Labor and Delivery Support: Provides constant, in-person support, helping with pain management techniques like massage, breathing, and position changes.

  • Postpartum Support: Assists with newborn care, feeding (breastfeeding support), and adjusting to life with a new baby.
